after spending the majority of 2009 in hollywood, chanes briefly returned home to finish up songs for what would become his 2010 release, an experimentation in instrumentation. the 15-track tape, presented by house shoes, exposed us all to the nomadic 21-year-old producer from canton, michigan. chanes would spend the next two years working between home and brooklyn, before relocating to arizona, where he would release his follow up project, renegade hands, (insect records 2013). presented again by shoes, hands solidified chanes as one of the most promising young producers in the country.
fast-forward to 2016, and at 27, this self-titled debut takes us circa 2007 - 2009 with the soul-chopping salad days of his mother s basement, through the alternative sampling williamsburg, brooklyn sessions of 2010. if the melancholy desert psychedelia of his isolated four years in perpetual southwestern summer gives us a glimpse into his growing electronic influences, then the angst of his winter homecomings are hiding under the aggressive parka weather beats that first caught the attention of detroit’s underground.

farr has a diverse catalogue, with three well-received releases on turbo as well as records with dsnt, leisure system and power vacuum. few producers can claim to have remixed tiga and been remixed by truss.
though farr has an extensive history with bloc., this will be his first outing on the label, a release that incorporates sounds that both bloc and joe are famed for.
the first track, “rpm” features prominently in the bloc festival trailer and is the soundtrack to the 2016 weekender. hissing high hats and an atmospheric baseline quickly develop into an explosive anthem designed to get feet moving. “rolling and thatching” conveys an immediate punch of 90’s acid, followed by techno heavy “workout three” with crunching beats and an unremitting delivery worthy of the berghain dance floor.

liam blackburn s transformative night of visions lp as ancestral voices forged a bold new sonic identity for an influential figure on the electronic music scene. from his groundbreaking work as indigo and onto the success of akkord s hybrid electronic melting pot (with synkro), the quest for forward movement is intrinsic to everything liam produces. to further celebrate the night of visions lp release, we asked some of our favourite producers to reconstruct some of night of visions highlights in their own style. each remixer chose their own track from night of visions to work with. the first name on our remix list was swedish producer and northern electronics label head - abdulla rashim. choosing invocations , his remix focuses on the hypnotic power of the original, turning the tune into a golden loop with subtle kick drum stabs, sweeping percussion and a dangling tension that hangs through the entire 7.33 minutes. asc & sam kdc chose feathered serpent and using just touches of the original tune have masterfully built an all new backbone that demonstrates clearly the ability of the grey area sound to work at 2 different tempo s and weld together with straight techno.

dj python is arguably nyc’s first deep-reggaeton artist. the record starts on the dembow, tricks you into thinking you actually got the deepest-of-the-deep house record on the flip, and quickly snaps back to the rhythm on the last track. dj python says “this will be a huge open-air record.”

returning to houndstooth a year since the release of his one sound/layer lock ep is second storey. after spending most of 2015 focussing on his collaboration with laurence osbourne second storey & appleblim present also over at r&s records, alec storey came back into the fold as part of the houndstooth 3rd anniversary compilation earlier this year. now he returns to the label in full with a gleaming new ep, bismuth.

one of the most accomplished and celebrated bands in the field of contemporary, unclassified pop music. almamegretta are masters in combining a wide range of elements such as dub, funk, reggae, world and electronica, all filtered through their own deep southern italian roots. the band from naples is now back with a new album, mixed by the dub master adrian sherwood, who had already been involved in their mid-nineties masterpiece “sanacore”. this new work consists of ten tracks, nine originals plus a well chosen cover of an old neapolitan hit by nino d’angelo transformed into a lovers rock style song. almamegretta’s original line up of gennaro t tesone, paolo polcari and raiz is augmented by a great list of collaborators and the result is a strong and multi layered set made of afro-funk numbers, reggae ballads, and other riddims, while the british dub influence remains central within the group’s wide sound palette. the title “ennenne”, which means no name, is inspired by the acronym used for those who are born from unknown parents. the right title for such a highly dense picture based on the combination of contemporary sounds and social topics.

already a prominent figure in the windy city scene via his residency at smart bar and working as a&r and in-house buyer at gramaphone records, garrett’s talents extend even further, right back to the lab, to the deep studio from whence all music grows.
his chicago-tinged-with-detroit blend of clean, yet warm and occasionally raw bumpin’ house tracks showcase a kaleidoscope of grooves backed by heavy-seated drum programming and glacial, almost-interspatial padwork.

filou brings the 9th vinyl of the romanian label escapism musique. with two original tracks, revolt and golden black, filou ascends proportions of the tech sounds in complex tracks that gets the listener into motion. cristian burkhardt transcends the tones of revolt into a symmetrical harmony that vibes up with the sheer, meanwhile ed ed enthuses through his play with cheer and rhythm, ending the release in a dancing mood.

nice price deal !!! for their summer of seven tracks iso68 have, as usual, recorded many live instruments. we hear drums, guitar, keys, and brass, mixed into two tight tracks which unfold their addiction not at first glance. but after several plays the two pieces by florian zimmer (who also plays with the bands saroos and jersey) and thomas leboeg (member of hamburg?s popband kante) become essential beauties

the second of two zentrum spinoffs is with us! as with the first, it comes loaded with four remixes. octo octa, vito & druzzi, cooper saver and turbotito, and lemonade all handed in top-notch reimaginings of tracks off jacques renault s debut lp, which came out just under a year ago, and they all somehow manage to be unique unto themselves while also sublimely bleeding into one another. octo octas rendering of mi casa samba serves as a propulsive beginning thats as dark and druggy as it is sharp and focused. vito & druzzis take on faith runs in a similar vein, but in a more stripped-back, drawn-out, and patient sort of way, it is nearly ten minutes long, so this is perhaps not a surprise. the b s remixes are brighter, sunnier, though that s not to say they re not bold. cooper saver and turbotito s redo of words has a certain funky swing to it that, paired with spacey synths and balearic bells and whistles, makes it ideal daytime disco fodder. the lemonade boys close the ep with their vibey take on faith. pads for days, a plump bass, and a focus on the original s sax make you wonder if the song itself somehow got stoned from a couple extra giant bong rips. a fitting way to end both the 12inch and the summer.

given that cocktail d amore s first entry into the re-edit arena, cockring d amore, landed almost a year ago, this follow-up is long overdue. whereas that ep featured a trio of reworks from the extended family, both tracks on this solid 7- (snigger) come from berlin-based dj/producer trent. he begins with the cheery european disco of -the acrobat-, where prominent horn lines rise and fall over slick funk guitars and shimmering strings. flip for the cosmic disco-meets-cosmic rock masculinity of -the fool-, a killer fusion of elastic slap bass, eyes closed guitar solos and occasional blasts of glam rock vocals. whip off your t-shirt and get to it (dancing, that is).
